 NTEU Activities specifically for research staff:
Your research staff colleagues who are NTEU members have been active in 
  • arguing for improvements in Enterprise bargaining, 
  • establishing  the Research -Only staff Working Group, 
  • running a sub-committee of the QUT branch of the NTEU to publicise their activities
  • producing a booklet of all NTEU policies about research and research staff
  • attending a bi-annual national research staff conference to develop further policies for improvement
  • surveying all research staff over working conditions.

Your wages and conditions at QUT are governed by an Enterprise Agreement until November 2008.  A full copy of this agreement can be obtained from the QUT website.   Acting on behalf of all staff, the NTEU (along with other professional staff unions) was able to obtain some significant improvements over previous years.

Of particular importance to research staff are the following parts of the agreement.

For all research staff on Fixed-term contracts (ie non-casual):
  • Continuity of Service (for long service leave)
  • Superannuation:
  • Renewal of contracts
For Research Casual staff
  • Casual loading  for all increased to 23%
  • Possibility of conversion (for general staff casuals) to continuing or fixed term
For Research Academic staff
  •  Working Party on ongoing employment for long term research staff.
  •   Promotion procedures
